Amazing Vintage Volumes - Historical Books from New England

Living in Boston, there are many old homes full of many old books collected by many people over the ages.  I spend many happy hours scouring the shelves of bookstores to find some of the remarkable books that are offered in my shop. I gravitate toward art books, but I love history books too.

Silouhettes are all the rage these days.  These two beauties have been in my family a long time. I think they have wonderful detailing. I especially love the replica signatures that lend an air of authenticity.

Vintage Advertisements - Beautiful Objects on Offer

I've been mining old magazines to find some relly cool old style advertisements. I found these beauties in a National Geographic from the turn of the last century. Beautiful gadgets and cars.

Sneak Peek - New Mommy Cards Coming

I'm working on a new set of products for the shop. I wanted to give you a first peak at what I think will be very popular - at least among the Mommy set.  I've taken a vintage image from a 1940s refrigerator instruction booklet and repurposed as a Mommy facing notecard and frig magnet set. I'm still fussing with the layout and typeface. But I'm very pleased with how it's turning out.

Play the Hand You Are Dealt

What will we do on the car ride to Niagra, you are wondering. Yeah, I'm wondering that too. We have some fun games and traditions that will help while away the hours. We were recently bequethed some vintage games from my mother-in-law's attic. She was a collector (or hoarder) of silly things. We have inherited some of it.


Some of it is funky and swell. I'm not sure what this card game is. I love Felix the Cat, so I was drawn to this pack of cards. Anyone know what the game might be?

I also got my hands on a travel Monopoly set. You play the game without a board. I don't quite get it. I have a few weeks to get used to playing the game in a new way.

I just bought the most wonderful vintage shoes from the most wonderful shop. Take a look at these beauties from PearlModern. Such lovely vintage specimens. Their etsy shop is great, but the lovely vintage tidbits they share on their blog are really fab. I've learned a thing or two by spending some time on their blog. Wander around; I think it will be worth your time.

Sources for Ephemera

I'm always scouting out places to find interesting old books and papers to use in some of my work. Recently I revisited a favorite haunt here in Boston, the venerable Brattle Book Shop. Its tucked away at 9 West Street in Downtown Boston and is a terrific source of wonders. They have outside stalls with all sorts of things. And when you venture indoors you find a multi-floor warren of books, papers, periodicals and postcards.
